Onboarding Wizard

The onboarding wizard is a full-screen modal that appears automatically the first time you launch Hefty. It cannot be dismissed until the Terms of Service are accepted. Once completed, Hefty stores a flag in localStorage so the wizard does not appear again on subsequent launches.

Admin Onboarding (6 Steps)

  1. Welcome — Terms of Service acceptance checkbox. You must agree before proceeding. A "Skip" button becomes available only after accepting the terms.
  2. About You — Set your display name and link external accounts (Telegram, Discord, or custom platforms).
  3. Personalize Your Agent — Give the agent a custom name, upload an avatar, and write personal preference instructions.
  4. Connect Your LLM — Select an AI provider (Ollama, OpenAI, etc.), enter credentials, test the connection, and pick a model. This step also configures the embedding provider.
  5. Hefty Bot Platform — Optional: enter a platform API key, enable sync, and toggle error log submission.
  6. You're Ready — Quick-start tips including the keyboard shortcut / for the command bar, natural chat input, file attachments, and /help for assistance.

Non-Admin Onboarding (3 Steps)

  1. Welcome — Terms acceptance.
  2. About You — Display name and linked accounts.
  3. You're Ready — Quick-start tips.

Re-Triggering Onboarding

To see the wizard again, clear the localStorage key hefty-onboarding-complete-1 from your browser's developer tools. This is useful for re-running setup or demonstrating the wizard.

All Settings Can Be Changed Later

Every option configured during onboarding can be modified at any time through the user menu dialogs — AI Settings, Agent Profile, and User Settings. No choice made during setup is permanent.

Each step auto-saves when you click "Next". For local providers like Ollama, the wizard automatically tests the connection so you can confirm everything is working before finishing setup.
