System Monitoring & Updates

Hefty provides visibility into system health, connection state, server logs, model download status, and software update management. This page covers how to monitor your Hefty instance and keep it up to date.

Connection Status

The connection state between the frontend and the Hefty backend is visible in the header via the user icon color. This gives you an at-a-glance view of your backend and authentication status:

Status	Meaning
Green	Backend connected and user is authenticated
Blue / animated	Backend is connecting in progress
Yellow	Backend connected but user is not authenticated
Red	Backend is not reachable

When connected, the footer displays the server version number, so you can quickly verify which version of the backend you are running against.

Provider Connectivity

Separately from the backend connection, Hefty tracks the health of every configured AI provider. When one or more LLM or embedding providers are unreachable, a warning indicator appears in the header alongside the other status icons.

• Clicking the indicator opens a popup that lists every configured provider entry — LLM providers and embedding providers — each with a colored availability dot and its base URL
• The popup includes a shortcut to open the AI Settings dialog, so a misconfigured or offline provider can be fixed on the spot
• Availability is re-checked in the background; the indicator disappears once all providers are reachable again
