Interactive Tutorial
After completing onboarding, Hefty launches an interactive guided tutorial that walks new users through the interface using spotlight overlays and step-by-step explanations. Each tutorial step highlights a specific part of the UI so you can learn by doing rather than reading documentation alone.
Starting the Tutorial
There are two ways to access the tutorial:
- Auto-start — The tutorial begins automatically right after you finish the onboarding wizard.
- Manual restart — Re-trigger the tutorial at any time via User Menu → Tutorial.
Tutorial Steps
The tutorial is a sequence of guided steps. Each step highlights a specific part of the interface with a spotlight overlay and provides an explanation of what that area does.

Steps marked Admin Only are automatically hidden for non-admin users. Non-admin users will see steps 1–8 and 10, with step 9 skipped entirely.
Auto-Submit Behavior
Steps 5 (First Prompt) and 7 (Second Prompt) automatically submit chat messages on behalf of the user to demonstrate the agent in action. These auto-submitted prompts create temporary activity entries that appear in the conversation just like normal messages.
The tutorial waits for each auto-submitted activity to complete before allowing the user to proceed. The Next button remains blocked until the activity finishes generating its response.
Auto-submitted messages are generated by the tutorial system, not typed by the user. They behave as normal activities and appear in the conversation history.
Navigation
The tutorial provides the following navigation controls:
- Next — Advances to the next step. Blocked if the current step has a
waitForcondition that is not yet satisfied (e.g., waiting for an auto-submitted activity to complete). - Back — Returns to the previous step.
- Skip — Skips the entire tutorial and marks it as complete.
- Escape — Pressing Escape also skips the tutorial, equivalent to clicking Skip.
Persistence
Tutorial progress is tracked in localStorage using two keys:
hefty-tutorial-complete-0— Set totrueonce the tutorial is finished or skipped. The number suffix is a version counter that allows future tutorial updates to re-trigger for existing users.hefty-tutorial-step-0— Stores the current step index so the tutorial can resume where the user left off if they close the browser or navigate away before completing it.
Users can always re-trigger the tutorial at any time via the User Menu, regardless of the completion flag.
